The guitar riffs themselves (originally "Krvtz" from the Takes comp) have been kicking for over a year, but it wasn't until I got my e-kit last year where I began fleshing out the song. Also, I ended up getting my first Electribe the end of that year to, and the first pattern I composed on it consisted of those drum parts I came up with on the e-kit.
This song pretty much sums up the transition I've made with Helicoid as a solo project. Originally I was writing all the songs and recording all the parts on my computer, with the intention that later I would have a live band back me up when performing live. But that never came to be, so I restructured the project around the idea of doing guitar loops over a pre-sequenced drum pattern that I created, therefore making it more simple/faster for me to convey the music in a live setting. It's funny, because 10 years ago when I began composing my own "songs", I would just use the existing loops on the first DAW I ever used (Sony ACID Music, anyone?!) Now I guess the project has come full circle. Or full loop?
Anyway, I'm stoked to be sharing this new material after years of uncertainty with this project. I literally just finished them up minutes before uploading them to Bandcamp, so they're definitely not perfect recordings. But hey, gotta (re)start somewhere I suppose.
